About Myringotomy

Myringotomy is usually performed under local anaesthesia . In children it is performed under general anaesthesia.It is a procedure in which serous or mucoid fluid is removed from middle ear after giving incision in anteroinferior quadrant of tympanic membrane. Small ventilation tubes are placed to improve middle ear aeration . tubes usually get extruded after 2 months.

How is Myringotomy and grommet insertion Performed

Incision is given in anteroinferior quadrant of tympanic membrane . Using 22 no suction set serous fluid is suckedout. Grommet is inserted.

Serous otitis media not responding to medical management.

Wax in external auditory canal is cleaned. Ear canal is washed thoroughly.
